General information about holidays by boat What carry with you Luggage: you are advised to carry only soft luggage; it is hard to stow the stiff one. Supplies, shops and banks Supermarkets are usually open on working days from 8.00 to 21.00; in very busy ports they are open on Sundays as well. Souvenir shops are open all day until late at night, 7 days a week. Banks open from 8.00 to 13.00. While you are sailing Chartering a boat gives you unlimited freedom, leadership and responsibility for the crew and the watercraft. Try to keep the yacht clean and check the engine and the quipment every day. You will be informed about the features of your boat before sailing. As a captain, you will realize that you might meet with some problems during your journey. Please contact us immediately at any time if you are not able to overcome the difficulty by yourselves. Our technicians are found in most ports and islands. Also remember that, at the end of your holiday, any complaint about lacking equipment will not be accepted unless we are informed about the matter. We are at your disposal 24 hours a day, you are never alone! Weather forecast You can listen to the weather forecast in English language twice a day, at 6.30 and at 17.30, by radio on 728 Khz AM frequency or 91.20 Mhz FM. Every day you will find a recorded message on 86 VHF channel and you can get weather information from harbour authorities as well. You may also request the local weather forecast to Hellas Radio on 16 VHF channel. Restitution of the boat and check-out We shall be very grateful if, while checking-in, you let us know your scheduled arrival time and the departure time of your flight. This information will allow us to plan the check-out most suitable for you. The yacht shall be returned in the same conditions as it was at your departure: refuelled, watered, cleaned and in perfect order. If you want, we ourselves can think of it against an additional charge. VHF assistance Remember that your VHF radio covers a range of about 40 miles. 16 channel: international aid channel (most watercrafts listen to this channel) 12 channel: harbour police 86 channel: overnight weather forecast service, in English and Greek language. Kousto Sailing will always be in contact with your boat. Salvage assistance It is very important to know the instructions and to inform the crew about them. Remember that the International Salvage Law is carried out in Greece, too. If it is possible, try not to be salvaged by another boat. In case of need follow the procedure mentioned below: within 40 miles from our base call us on VHF channel, where we shall be in contact. If you are more than 40 miles away or if you do not manage to cantact us, call Hellas Radio and request to be connected with our office telephone numbers. You will be given the help you need. If you are not able to contact us and the only possibility is to be salvaged by another boat, negotiate with the captain of the other watercraft and agree on the price. Then put everything in writing. Safety and first aid When you are travelling abroad you experience a different way of life. Our task is to take care of our customers’ safety and well-being. You are sure that choosing Kousto Sailing holidays you will be informed about any detail concerning the safety of the boat you have chosen. You will find a first-aid kit on each boat. Take with you some high-protection cream against sunburns. Should you use specific medicines, make sure you have got the quantity you need. Water, fuel and gas You might not find water and fuel on every island, so refuel your boat whenever you can. The yacht is equipped with 2 gas cylinders for the kitchen; you can have the empty cylinder replaced at every port for a minimum charge. Rubbish The ever-increasing rubbish and pollution of the seas caused by man are very discouraging. Unfortunately the environment shows several traces of this pollution. You are asked to use the equipment found at the various ports. Do not throw your rubbish into the sea. |
